God is not pleased with Christmas. There are a lot of good things about the holiday season: kindness, family togetherness, greater sensitivity to the plight of those who are less fortunate than we are.
But kindness and love are not supposed to be seasonal. Being stronger during one season means they are weaker during other seasons. True Bible love – the foundation of kindness, the glue that holds families together – is supposed to be something that never fails (I Corinthians 13:8).
Also, God never commanded or authorized “Christmas.” Like the Pharisees, men today lay aside the commandment of God (baptism by immersion – John 3:23, and weekly observance of the Lord’s supper – Acts 20:7), and they hold the tradition of men (Mark 7:8, see also Matthew 15:9).
And Christmas is a time of great hypocrisy. Many people sing carols, attend a Christmas service, and feel a warm glow about the birth of Jesus, and yet do not care enough about the church he purchased with his blood (Acts 20:28) to attend services regularly (Hebrews 10:25). Singing about the babe of Bethlehem, is no substitute for obeying the crucified Christ. Celebrating Christmas once a year is easier than living every day trying to do what Jesus teaches us in the Bible. It is hypocritical to sing Away in a Manger and then to live as if Christ had never come. “Why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say.” (Luke 6:46)?
